Stainless Steel UNS S30900 Pipes and Tubes contains no responsive to heat treatment; strength, and hardness is enhanced through cold working. However, Alloy 309 Tubes cannot be hardened by heat treatment as they remain solely austenitic at room temperature. The superior tensile and yield strengths resulting from cold work with Stainless Steel Din 1.4301 Seamless Tubing are not stable at elevated temperature where these alloys are primarily used. Basically, AISI 309 Pipes are nonmagnetic when annealed and lightly magnetic when cold worked.
